Hesham Fayez is a Partner in MFDP’s Banking & Finance practice, with over 20 years of experience across banking, finance, and intellectual property law. He also advises fintech clients operating in payment facilitation and aggregation, microfinance, and digital core banking infrastructure.
Hesham began his career as a legal researcher at the Egyptian Ministry of Trade, before spending four years in the Intellectual Property and Telecom departments at Zaki Hashem & Partners. In 2006, he joined Citigroup as in-house Country Counsel, advising the bank across Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Ireland on corporate and consumer banking, acquisition finance, supply chain finance, asset-based lending, syndications, derivatives, custody, and Islamic finance.
In 2016, Hesham led the legal work on the sale of Citi’s consumer portfolio in Egypt — a transaction recognized by IFLR as the Best M&A Deal of the Year in the Middle East. Later in his tenure, he supported Citibank Europe Plc in Dublin on product development, key client relationships, FX matters, and regulatory implementation.
In 2019, Hesham joined Arab Investment Bank as General Counsel, where he led the restructuring of the bank’s legal affairs and managed a complex acquisition process ahead of the bank’s sale.
Hesham has twice been recognized by Legal 500: in the Corporate Counsel 100 Powerlist: Africa (2015) and the In-house Legal Team GC Powerlist: Africa Teams (2016). He also lectures on Money and Banking at the Faculty of Law, British University in Egypt.
