Hussein Marei is a Partner and Co-Head of Corporate M&A at MFDP, with more than 20 years of experience advising on complex corporate, M&A, and capital markets transactions across Egypt, the Middle East, and Europe.
Hussein began his career at Baker & McKenzie, where he advised on general corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets transactions. In 2005, he joined Orascom Construction Industries as Group General Counsel, overseeing the legal function for major M&A deals, corporate restructurings, and listings spanning multiple jurisdictions.
In 2008, Hussein served as lead lawyer on the largest M&A transaction in Egypt’s history at the time — a landmark deal recognized by IFLR in 2010 as the Best M&A Deal of the Year in the Middle East. He later relocated to the Group’s UK headquarters in London, where he advised on a landmark demerger that resulted in two entities listing on the Netherlands Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Dubai.
In 2019, Hussein served as General Counsel and Board Secretary for Fertiglobe, the ADNOC/OCI joint venture based in Abu Dhabi that became the world’s largest exporter of nitrogen fertilizers.
